Producing Artistic Director, Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF)
The CU College of Arts & Sciences seeks a Producing Artistic Director (PAD) for the Colorado Shakespeare Festival, a professional theatre in residence on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder. CSF produces a summer season of four to five productions in the beautiful 1000-seat Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and the 400-seat indoor University Theatre, an outreach Shakespeare tour to area schools, and a year-round education program. The PAD will be a rostered member of the Department of Theatre & Dance, as a Full or Associate Professor with tenure, as a non-tenure track Artist-in-Residence, or as a University Staff (Professional Exempt) Director. The PAD will teach for the department and contribute to its mission, specifically as it collaborates with CSF.
CSF hires Equity and non-Equity, including students. With a $1.3 million annual budget, it supports the educational mission of CU Boulder through a dynamic partnership with Colorado’s Flagship University. The PAD is the prime steward of the festival’s artistic vision and must lead season selection, hire creative teams, drive donor and patron cultivation, and strengthen communication and collaboration between stakeholders. The PAD is responsible for strategic planning, financial management, fund-raising, contract negotiations, university relations, Board relations, community leadership and representation with national constituents such as the Shakespeare Theatre Association.
Three years’ experience in a leadership position in a professional theatre is required, as well as proven dynamic leadership skills, and the vision and ability to lead the organization with passion, financial integrity and a collaborative spirit. Preferred qualities include a university degree (MFA and/or Ph.D. preferred) as well as 3+ years of teaching experience at the university level. Rank (Professor, Associate Professor, Artist-in-Residence, or University Staff), salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
